Recap of the Team’s First Full Day in Africa

That’s “Hello Family and Friends” in Swahili!

Yesterday was a beautiful first day of immersion in the outskirts of Nairobi, Kenya in a neighborhood called Kahawa Sukari where we will spend the majority of our time doing our ministry work.

• 

The team spent a good portion of the day with our host families who have made us feel incredibly welcome into their homes. The hospitality and love here is immeasurable and a great blessing to us all.

• 

We met with Pastor Ezekiel at Kahawa Sukari Baptist Church and conversed with the leadership team during High Tea outlining the goals and expectations for the upcoming week.

On Saturdays, the church offers the youth in the community Sports ministry where they can learn about the Gospel, the fundamentals of basketball, and teamwork lead by Coach Frank and Coach Chris.

• 

A highlight of the day was when one of the kids came up to us and began sharing with us about his background. He told us that he came from Russia when he was 3 years old and is now 9. He enjoys playing basketball and soccer and is fluent in English, Swahili, and Russian.

• 

Brian and Brian spoke Russian to one another as our Brian’s grandmother has done ministry work for many years in Russia and the surrounding region. It was a pleasure seeing them connect so perfectly in His Love.

We have learned a tremendous amount this far about the love and desire the Kenyan people have for God and it’s been both palpable and irresistible. We are excited for church service today and will have plenty more to share soon!
